@HomesAmbiguity, or everyone else..can we discuss the errors seen on the CIPT1 (642-447) book by Josh Finke and Dennis Hartmann.

I think the book is on point but some sections of the book are misleading or please refer me to the relevant forums

I have installed CUCM 8 in Vmaware… everything is wrking well… But during registration of Cisco IP-Communicator.. It nt gettin registered.. I think the issue is in TFTP server… i hv given ccm ip address as a tftp server.. m i correct??

make sure tftp server is the cucm ip of the sub/pub( if u use pub as a tftp) is correct, and also check with .loads file …

Gt it… the tftp service ws nt activated by default in cucm..

Do u hv ny lab setup.. i hv nly cucm installed in vmware n CIPC..

Could be a number of things:
1. Is the tftp service running on the server used as ftfp server
2. Are you using Auto-reg or you are manually configuring phones on your CUCM
3. You need to understand the boot process of the IP phone you are using (CDP, Voice vlan, DHCP, Option 150 / tftp server)
4. What error meesage you see on the phone screen? “Ethernet disconnected / Keeps rebooting” and findout what each symptom means..

wan to practice for CIPT1.. w/o hands on lab.. its useless studying frm book or watching nuggets…

Finally Managed to make phones Ring’ssss!!!!
using cisco ip communicator & X-lite softphone… cucm installed in vmware.. all in 1pc… n i think its sufficient for Cipt1…

Can anyone help me with CIPT1 V8.0 & CIPT 2 V8.0 Nuggets ?

Please also give me Labs if available.

@Ethen, I dont think Jeremy has even started working on the CCNP Voice series.

I’ve been to the CBT Nugget website a couple of times and nothing indicates that he is working on it. I would suggest watching v6.0 nuggets to see the screens and configurations pages. But use a v8.0 text book to prepare for an exam.

The CCNA Voice 2011 series CBTNuggets ll b out in sum dayzz.. Jeremy posted on his blog… But no idea abt CCNP-Voice… I think the Video mentor has completed d CCNP-Voice series n ll b available soon..

But the old series of CBTnuggets fr ccnp-voice(v6) is still vry helpfull.. as i cn’t see ny difference in cucm 7 n 8 configuration.. m having d ebook of CIPT1 v8.. n cucm 8 installed on vmware.. its very much helpful for hands-on-cucm..

Before gettin startd.. make sure ur PC is having.. min 2gb Ram.. 72gb free space in hard-disk.
n u shuld hv… Vmware workstaion/server.. or u can use oracal virtual box(its freeware)..
Gns3..n CUCM8 ios image.. torrent it!!
den u ll need CIPC(cisco ip communicator) version 7 wuld b better if u gt dat.. n one x-lite sip softphone(Thirdparty softphone).. both CIPC & X-lite should be auto-registered wit SIP.. Gents, not sure if this will help anyone, but here are some tips -
I have used an IBM system x3755 (4 x Dual- Core AMD Opteron 82220 SE) with 32 GB memory to run vmware and cucm 8.6.
I wanted to use vmware for CUCM 8.6x installation but was facing issues, used ESXi, vmware server and vmware Fushion. So far the best one I found is vmware workstation. It might not be the free version but keygen is there:-)
If your processor is amd best is to install in a intel machine and transfer the .vhdk file over to run it on the amd machine.
using cucm as the dhcp server is the bet option to keep static ip for phones if you’re running it as a home lab.
When you add a .cop file best to reboot the system, but adding a firmware upgrade (like 8.5(4) to 9.2(1)) file just need a TFTP restart.
During cucm 8.x installation use GNS3 for NTP router or use your home ISP router’s IP as a NTP source, installation will not go through unless you provide a reachable IP address.
If any of you installing cucm on a virtual machine and facing issues let me know, will try my best to help you.

hi all..

i took the exam today and i passed with 848 score( who cares the score)…. my preparation materials are cipt1 foundation learning guide, and updated .vce dump…. got around 3-4 new questions but easy to answer…. since this exam is multiple choice type, i didn’t feel like interesting and challenging which i felt with routing and switching… i didnt follow the answers in the dump file and so i got less score, but at the end of the day who cares the score…. cisco needs to put some simulation type scenario for these exams which would attract the techie guys to opt for this exam….

for all regarding the question about the services need to be publisher… the answer is call manager, and tftp server… not the cisco dirsync…

I think its nt correct…
1) DirSync:
DirSync has to be activated on the publisher server because the publisher is the only server in the CUCM cluster with read/write capabilities and information is being inserted into the CUCM IDS database.( So, i think it should be activated on Publisher).

2) Cisco DHCP Monitor Service
Cisco DHCP Monitor Service monitors IP address changes for IP phones in the database tables. When a change is detected, it modifies the /etc./dhcpd.conf file and restarts the DHCPD daemon. ( Cisco recommends that DHCP Monitor Service should be activated on Publisher)

3) Call manager: It is not necessary(recommended by cisco ) that Publisher should be involved in call processing..(The basic function of call manager service is to process the call in ur system/organization) If there are more than 1000 Ip-Phones in ur organization… ( so, i think its not mandatory to activate call manager servic on publisher)

4)To avoid performance issues, Cisco recommends that you configure a dedicated TFTP server (separate from the Cisco CallManager server) if you have many phones and gateways in your network…

…..Cisco CallManager and Cisco TFTP services can run on the same server in small configurations only (for example, in a network with fewer than 2500 phones)….

you are stating based on theoretical experience, but I have experience with real time environment, where I did set up the call managers to my company from scratch…. if you would like to have some proof then i can attach the screenshot of my callmanager… i have cluster containing 5 servers i.e. 1 pub 4 subs…. i got less score since i messed up the drag and drop about the h232 voice class profile config… Dirsync is not necessary at all… and moreover you’re correct about tftp,but u can assign it later to an dedicated tftp server once you setup the cluster…..

Is your CUCM7 installed in VM ? how about the Hard disk size allocated?
I had this case at before as the VM HDD allocate size is too low(40GB in Split virtual disk into multiple files, I tried this mode can be passed installation steps without warning). It needs at least 72GB.

For my solution, I have created a new VM with 200GB for max disk size and it is working noramlly. Btw, if the cucm7 have this problem, you can see there are error messages after you logged on with root(who you created at installation progress) in the cucm Linux interface.

Hello Everyone:

I would need to set a CUCM VM lab. I have an XP machine with core2 duo, 4GB of RAM at 2.7 Ghz. I would like to know the following:

1. Is this machine suitable already to run GNS3 and VM ware to install CUCM 8.x?
2. How can I go through about it? i.e. installing GNS3 and VM?
3. where can I get an image of CUCM 8.x?

I could install these as long as I have the steps and procedure. I am not clear on how to go about it. Im just starting on my cert and dont have resources. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. I was excited to find this website and is optimistic I could find help within.

In these 226 or 219 Question dumps lot of questions pertain to CIPT 2 I guess. Those are like for CAR etc. Does one need to worry about those ?
Also is there some list of compile wrong/ suspected answers of the said two dumps ?

@ Iswar: 56Q!!! the exam has over 70 Qs. I guess u meant to say VCE with 226 Qs. But remember these VCEs are no replacement to studying book(s), Nuggets, or doing hands-on. Yes, these can help you pass the exam, but you MUST have the background knowledge.

Hi all, what do you think, what is the correct answer for this question:
Managers have asked to be able to have an extension call them back if it is busy when they try to call it. In what two places can this feature be assigned to Managers phone?
a. device defaults
b. phone button template
c. firmware load information
d. default device profile configuration
e. device profile
f. softkey template

In the test it is stated that A and E is correct, BUT I would personally choose b and f, because it’s there where you can assign callback function to either one of the templates and after that apply them to the phone.
