    @Selsius

Going back to my previous question (24th Aug 2011) about the phone restoring connectivity to the primary server, I am still confused after reading below question and its answer.

    QUESTION NO: 28
How does an IP phone maintain its connection with the primary and secondary Cisco Unified
Communications Manager servers in the cluster?
    A. Cisco IP phones register with their primary server. When idle, the IP phones and Cisco Unified Communications Manager exchange the signaling applicationkeepalives. In addition, Cisco IP phones establish a UDP session with their secondary server and exchange UDP keepalives.
    B. Cisco IP phones register with their primary server. When idle, the IP phones and Cisco Unified Communications Manager exchange the signaling applicationkeepalives. In addition, Cisco IP phones establish a TCP session with their secondary server and exchange TCP keepalives.
    C. Cisco IP phones register with their primary and secondary servers. When idle, the IP phones
and Cisco Unified Communications Manager exchange the signaling applicationkeepalives with
    both servers using UDP keepalives.
    D. Cisco IP phones register with their primary and secondary servers. When idle, the IP phones
and Cisco Unified Communications Manager exchange the signaling applicationkeepalives. In
addition, Cisco IP phones establish a TCP session with their secondary server and exchange TCP
    keepalives.
    Answer: B

There is no doubt B is the answer of above question.

If you notice in option B, it is mentioned IP phones establish a TCP session with their secondary server and exchange TCP keepalives.

I have also searched on google and found that IP phone will wait untill 3 keepalives and then only it will treat that connection as good connection.

So I strongly feel that D is the answer for my previous question date 24th Aug 2011.

What you say? If anyone else have input on this then please share.

    Mate,

Check this out from the CIPT1 book:

Cisco IP Phones register with their primary server. When idle, the Cisco IP Phones and
CUCM exchange signaling application keepalives. In addition, Cisco IP Phones establish
a TCP session with their secondary server and exchange TCP keepalives. When the
connection to the primary server is lost (no keepalives received), the Cisco IP Phone
registers to the secondary server. The Cisco IP Phone will continuously try to reestablish
a connection with the primary server; if successful, the Cisco IP Phone will reregister with
    the primary server.

    Passed with an 895.
I notice that for some of the questions that were in the dump, different answers sometimes appeared on the test.
    The only ones I remember…
…For the question about media resources and audio streams there was an answer that said, “audio streams only use RTP or SRTP”
…For the question about dummy MACs in a CSV file they added some ridiculous answer and made the question easier so that now there in only one possible right answer.

    On to CIPT 2

Congratulations! How would you suggest getting some hands on practice on CUCM and its components? What is the BEST way to learn this course?

    August 27th, 2011

    Selsius,

Congrats, mate! How was the dump? Valid? And what about the both question that you’ve quoted … which are the answers? The added in the exam or this in the dump?

  9. selsius
    August 28th, 2011

@SC, the dump is close enough that it is valid for exam prep. There were a few new questions but mostly the ones from the dump. For the media resource one I thought the audio streams use RTP or SRTP was a right answer. For the other one I thought the new answer was bogus. Look through the Dump, it is the question refering to dummy mac addresses I chose the following answer: “The MAC address is left blank in the CSV file and Cisco Unified Communications Manager BAT imports the
CSV file with the Create Dummy MAC Address option selected, ” which is the answer the dump gave.

Thank you. Do u remember any of the new questions?

  11. Cris
    August 30th, 2011

Can somebody help me with this question?

The abc.com Corporation is experiencing poor, choppy audio quality on voice calls placed across their WAN link to and from Madison. What can be done to the Location parameter for Madison to help alleviate this problem?

    A. Nothing, the audio bandwidth Location parameter for Madison is not related to the problem.
    B. Increase the audio bandwidth setting in the Location configuration window for Madison.
    C. Decrease the audio bandwidth setting in the Location configuration window for Madison.
    D. Remove the audio bandwidth parameter in the Location configuration window for Madison.

In the VCE says the answer is C, but I think is A.
This is the only Note that I found:

    Use locations to implement CAC…
Note: If CAC is not used to limit the audio and video bandwidth on IP WAN links, an unlimited number of calls can be active on that link at the same time. This situation can cause the quality of all audio and video calls to degrade as the link becomes oversubscribed.

    All,

Passed the exam today with 87x points. The most of the question was from the Xenix dump, but keep in mind that there are a lot of different answers.

    Good luck!

  13. Xenix
    September 5th, 2011

    @Cris
Similar thing is mentioned in CUCM System Guide (Call Admission Control). It says:
“Audio and video quality can begin to degrade when too many active calls exist on a link and the amount of bandwidth is oversubscribed. Call admission control regulates audio and video quality by limiting the number of calls that can be active on a particular link at the same time.”

This means if you are using a 64kbps link, only two g.729 call (24kbps+24kbps) will get through without any issue. If you try to place a third g.729 call, call will get through but voice quality of ALL CALLS will be degraded. This can only be avoided by setting proper BW settings in Location parameter.

    Hello All,

Can anyone please help me to understand what would be Incoming calling number if I have selected ‘Use Device pool CSS’ in Incoming calling party transformation settings and my Device pool CSS = Default.

  23. Azon
    September 9th, 2011

If we have selected ‘Use Device pool CSS’ checkbox, sequence is:
    1) Strip digits
    2) Add prefix
    3) Use Device pool CSS (ignored Calling Search Space)

  24. Revan
    September 9th, 2011

    Hi Azon,

Thanks for your reply but what if Device pool CSS is set to Default.

  25. Revan
    September 9th, 2011

    Lets discuss an example.

    Incoming calling number = 00492288224002
    Strip digits = 2
    Prefix = +
Use device pool CSS is selected

    Device pool CSS = Default

What incoming number it would show on IP phone?

  26. Anonymous
    September 11th, 2011

    +492288224002 for this example.

But on exam this question with TON=Unknow, without digit manipulation. Correct answer will be 00492288224002

Can someone please help me to clear confusion for below question.

Which three Cisco Unified Communications Manager settings can be used to support IP phone services? (Choose three)

    A. Device Defaults
    B. Enterprise Parameters
    C. IP Phone Service configuration
    D. Common Phone Profile
    E. Service parameters
    F. Phone Configuration window

  30. ciscodude
    September 14th, 2011

I’d say 6 or 7 new questions, and some current ones with different answers. Sorry I can’t remember them, I was far too nervous about passing. If you hit the videos and questions you should be fine, I didn’t dedicate a ton of time to studying CIPT1. I was more focused on CIPT2, which I passed the day before CIPT1 haha.

    September 15th, 2011

    @ciscodude
Do you remember the subjects of the new Q?

  32. Cris
    September 17th, 2011

I just passed with 848, It was really hard.
it was like 10 to 20 new Questions, from Xinix dump i have like 35 questions with the same answer, and like 15 more with diferent answer.

    I remember this new One:
If there are SIP dial-rules configured, what are the advantages (select two):
    A. You can dialing a phone without any communications with CUCM of signaling traffic.
    B. You receive a reorder tone if the number is not allowed without any communications with CUCM signaling traffic.
    C…
    D..
    E..
I don’t remember the other choices, cause i doubt between A and B, I select B and the other choice was very easy I think it was D.

From Xinix dump I remember this one:
Users that are subscribed to the default corporate directory are complaining that when they press the Directories button, they receive an error message regarding the URL. Which two parameters need to be edited?

—The answers are the same, but you have to choose TWO answers, in xinix dump you only have one choice, so you have to read and find the other choice….

Thanks for all your help, I’m going to start study CIPT2….

    Good luck every one.

    Guys one more question :

When Cisco Unified Communications Manager is in default configuration, why are all calls possible for all calling sources?

    A) Because all entities are placed in the partition and in the css.

    B) Because all entities are placed in the partition and in the css.

    C) Because entities that do not have a CSS assigned can only access calling targets without a partition assigned.

    D) Because any calling target can only reach those calling sources that are in the CSS.

    In Xenix’s dump, Ans = C

    But i guess it should be Option ” A ” { If the CSS == CSS } …

    Need your opinion guys ..

  45. Aks
    September 26th, 2011

    Correct Options :

    A) Because all entities are placed in the (none) partition and in the (Default) CSS.

    B) Because all entities are placed in the (Default) partition and in the (Default) CSS.

    C) Because entities that do not have a CSS assigned can only access calling targets without a partition assigned.

    D) Because any calling target can only reach those calling sources that are in the (Default) CSS.

Hi Guys, I cleared the exam with 83X marks .. There were around 5-6 new question and few question of dump had different options, and i one or two question we had to select 2 options ( but in the dump it had only 1 option as answer ) .. I got almost all the tricky question in the exam for example 1) Which of these ” Can Be ” hardware based media resource .. and 1 more was 2) Which Service needs to be run for it to work as Publisher .. etc … Il post you the New Questions asked in the next note as this is getting little congested =P

  49. Aks
    September 27th, 2011

New questions : ( Well i dont remember the entire question, but il highlight the imp words of the question, with which you can recognize it )

    1) Its related to Partition and CSS, you have 5 phones in the exhibit with separate partition and CSS, applied to it … ( Imp*: 1 phone doesn’t have a partition and 1 phone doesn’t have a CSS )

    Ans : Phone 2, Phone 3 and Phone 4 ( my answer ) …

    2) I got 2 questions for which answers were kind of same .. It had ” presence ” directory in the question.

Ans : Combined Phone Device and Subscribe CSS ( And in Dump we have one more ques for which the ans is Presence Group and Subscribe CSS )

    3) When CUCM is installed, how can the Customer Use the Operating system?

Ans : It can be accessed by Cisco TAC only[my answer] ( well this question is kinda tricky because, no 1 has a full access to the OS excluding CISCO TAC, we as an admin have few commands for troubleshooting purpose i guess, Please confirm this with someone who knows about this .. Many said the answer can be ” CLI and GUI ”

    4) One question was regarding , when phone is registered which server it will register with?

Ans : As we know it goes through the list in cucm group list from top to bottom, there was same option so i selected the same …

    5) which media resource can be configured in the cucm? ( Choose 3 )

Ans : MOH Server, Autoattended, Conference Bridge

    6) This was related to sip phone, The question has ” With a type of SIP A phone ”

    Ans : option a. ( type of Sip A Phone )

    ——————————————————————————————————————

@Abhishek Singh, the options to this question are:

    a) Reset the service parameter -> Phone URL parameter
    b) Reset Enterprise Phone URL parameters
    c) Select the Service parameter for the appropriate server and CCM (active) and change the URLs for each service to match the DNS name or IP Address of the server being configured.
    d) Change the URL under Enterprise parameter to match the DNS name or the IP Address being used by the server being configured and reset the IP Phones.
    e) verify that the corporate directory has the Enabled check box checked in the IP Phone services -> configuration service information page.
    f) Verify that the corporate directory has the Enabled check box checked in the Enterprise parameter -> Phone URL parameter page

I think the second answer is option ‘E’ according to my investigation, in addition to ‘D’.

    – Incoming calls can only be routed to phones, not trunk

    Hi

I have a CallManager Cluster (ver 6.1) and a voice gateway (Cisco 3945). All my other gateways are running mgcp but this one cant as CUCM 6.1 does not support 3945 using mgcp.

Routing to and from a site using a 3945 works 100% using h323. Only problem is that when you’re calling a mobile number, and press decline on the mobile, the Cisco IP phones is still getting a ringback tone for a couple of second and finally gets a user busy tone and message on the screen.

    Where can I configure this?

I’ve ran traces on the gateway and I see a User Busy message but CallManager does not clear the call:

    025993: Nov 22 14:43:15.722: ISDN Se0/0/0:15 Q931: RX <- DISCONNECT pd = 8 callref = 0xA771
    Cause i = 0x8091 – User busy

    Please advise

Never mind. Global config command: voice call disc-pi-off solved the problem.

@HomesAmbiguity, or everyone else..can we discuss the errors seen on the CIPT1 (642-447) book by Josh Finke and Dennis Hartmann.

I think the book is on point but some sections of the book are misleading or please refer me to the relevant forums

    Thx
