If you pass the exam 642-436 you get the certificacion CCNA Voice like appear in the cisco site:

CCNA Voice Exams & Recommended Training
    Required Exam(s)

    Recommended Training
640-460 IIUC Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC)
    OR
642-436 CVOICE 6.0 Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE)

    You can check in:

    http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le2/le0/le3/learning_certification_type_home.html

Then, If you check the page in cisco site about the ccvp you can see that the first exam is the same that the exam for CCNA voice. See the following:

    CCVP Exams & Recommended Training
    Required Exam(s)

    Recommended Training
642-436 CVOICE Cisco Voice over IP (CVOICE v6.0)
    642-446 CIPT1 Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Manager Part 1 (CIPT1 v6.0)
642-642 QoS Quality of Service (QoS)
    642-456 CIPT2 Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Manager Part 2 (CIPT2 v6.0)
642-426 TUC Troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Systems (TUC v1.0)

    or see in:

    http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le2/le37/le65/learning_certification_type_home.html

Then, if you pass the exam 642-436 you can get the certificacion CCNA voice and you would have approved the first exam of the certificacion CCVP.

    ok?

cos 642-436 is reccommended training for ccna voice does not mean dat if u pass 642-436 u will ve ccna voice; i currently hold ccna n ccnp but i can’t reg for any ccvp cos i don’t ve ccna voice?

    @anonymous

I currently hold ccna and ccnp too, and in this moment i studying to get the CCNA Voice. I began studying for the exam 640-460 IIUC Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC), but i change to the 642-436 CVOICE 6.0 Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE), cuz a friend that currently have CCVP told me that is better studying for the CVOICE instead of IIUC. He get the CCNA VOICE when he passed the exam 642-436 and he get your CCVP when he passed the other 4 exams.

I thought at first that it’s not possible but it’s true…

    ok?

@fred thanks for taking time to clarify this. I am thinking of going 4 ccdp, from ur ccvp analysis, do u knw whether doing 642-873 arch exam alone will earn me ccdp and ccda. I already ve ccnp n ofcourse ccna and you kw 2 of d ccnp exams is in ccdp. so what do u think?

Thanks for the post on CCNA voice! Your site + Sybex study guide really helped me prepare for my CCNA exam that i passed last week!
Now i want to prepare for the voice exam, any good recommendations for study guides?

  7. @oj
    June 21st, 2010

well, about the ccdp certification you first should be pass the exam 640-863 DESGN that is prerequisite, see the follow:

    CCDP Prerequisites
Valid CCNA and CCDA or any CCIE Certification can act as a pre-requisite.

Then if you pass the exam, 640-863, you can apply for CCDP and write the exam 642-873 ARCH and finally you will become CCDP.

@fred emm…i don’t i buy dat yet cos d same thing was said about ccvp: CCVP Prerequisites
    CCNA Voice or any CCIE
Certification can act as a pre-requisite?

  10. southoz
    June 21st, 2010

    Fred is correct, however

1.if you do not have a telecommunications background.
    2. Your job requires you to build and manage CME Routers.

Then IIUC should be completed before CVOICE 6.0

  11. voicetut
    June 21st, 2010

You can get CCNA Voice through 2 options:
    Get the IIUC 640-460 Exam
    Or
Get the CVoice 6.0 642-436 Exam

If your company uses Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express, Cisco Unity Express, and the UC500 Smart Business Communications System solutions then you should go with 640-460 exam.

The 642-436 exam is recommended for those who are working in big VoIP company, working with dial plans, gateways, gatekeepers.

One notice: to get the CCVP certification you need to pass the CVoice 642-436 exam so the second path is better if you want to get CCVP.

For more information about these exam, go to:
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/certifications/voice_ccna?view=overview

If you are a telecommunications engineer, I recommend you to read the basic “Voice Fundamentals” in CCNA Voice 640-460 book written by Jeremy because there is a lot of good information about voice processing, TDM technology. These are basic concepts that every telecommunications company will ask in the interview.

I wrote a topic about which path you should choose for your career after uploading content for the CVoice 642-436 Exam. You can read it here: http://voicetut.com/knowledge/ccna-voice-640-460-or-cvoice-642-436/

When Configuring T1/E1 how would I know which command to use ds0-group or pri-group?

Also when configuring PSTN dialplan, for the following command for T1/E1

    pri-group timeslots 1-14
    .
    .
    dial peer voice 911 pots
    .
    port 0/2/0:15

    How come it is :15?

    for pri-group timeslots 1-24
    its is 0/2/0:23

what is the logic behind that?

  17. voicetut
    June 21st, 2010

The ds0-group is used for CAS and pri-group is used for CCS.

When using T1 you need to use :23 & :15 for E1. They are the signaling channels for T1 & E1. We need to configure this type of channel to bring up other voice bearer channels.

    Hi Again

    This is only one tip:

in the exam is into the telephony-service to commands:

    CME(config)#telephony-service

    no into the config only:

    CME(config)#ephone 1
    CME(config-ephone)#mac-address 0014.1cbc.e179
    CME(config-ephone)#button 1:1 2:3

    and is reset no restart:

    CME(config-ephone)#restart
    CME(config-ephone)#exit

I pass with 983, this site has all questions!

    HI Everyone,

Does any know if the “regular” CCNA is the same as the CCNA voice? Is CCNA retired?

I am going for my CCNP because my regular CCNA expired many years ago.

Can I take the CCNA VOICE instead of the just CCNA plus my other 4 CCNP exams? Thanks

  30. voicetut
    June 21st, 2010

CCNA is not retired, to get CCNA Voice you need a valid CCNA as the prerequisite. Please read http://www.voicetut.com/ccna-voice-640-460-or-cvoice-642-436 for more information about this exam.

  31. JJ
    June 21st, 2010

    Voicetut,

Thanks for your reply. By the way thank you for your website. You’re doing a great service for the community.

I read the link provided already before posting but is still unclear. Based on your explanation, there are still 2 CCNA…

    1. regular CCNA(I thought it retired or the exam number got changed already if not I think it is still 640-802. (2 exams combined to get CCNA, I am not talking about ICND at all . 640-822 and 640-816. I am just talking about one composite test to get CCNA.

    2. CCNA voice (640-460)

Now I want to get my CCNP..
Can I go the path of using 640-460 as the CCNA plus the 4 CCNP exam to get my CCNP?

I am thinking of going for my CCVP in the future. If take 640-802 now as the prerequisite for CCNP. Then in the future if I want to pursue CCVP, I will need to retake 640-460 plus core requirements for CCVP.

So why in the world would people still want to get the “regular CCNA” if CCNA Voice has a potential better use in the future. (for CCVP that is)

  32. voicetut
    June 21st, 2010

You can get CCNA by only 1 exam 640-802.
If you want to get CCNP now you need to pass 4 old exams BSCI, BCMSN, ISCW and ONT (or 3 new exams ROUTE, SWITCH and TSHOOT). You can’t go the path of using 640-460 to get CCNP. But if you haven’t started learning CCNP yet then you will need to pass the 3 new exams because the 4 old exams will expire on 31-July-2010.

The “regular” CCNA is still the very basic certification you need to complete first to get other Cisco certifications (CCNA Voice, CCNP…). For example, to get CCVP you need to go this path: CCNA -> CVoice (to become CCNA Voice) + QoS + CIPT1 + CIPT2 + TUC

  33. JJ
    June 21st, 2010

Thanks voicetut for the clear explanation. It’s crystal clear now. You have a wonderful day! I will be back to share my experiences after I get my CCNP. I am going the 4 old test route for CCNP. I just passed BSCI and is getting ready to take BCMSN in a few days. Just by reading the comments from everyone so far for BCMSN, ISCW, and ONT, it’s going to be a walk in the park for me. I was worried before about squeezing 4 tests in a 2 months period but no more. Good luck everyone on your own journey to get to CCIE.

I recomend that people that its on the data world like CCNA or CCNP go first on the 640-460. Most part of the exam resides on CLi configurations.. Only the last chapter is based on the GUI configurations.

I also recomend for the study, get the cisco press book and the CBTnuggets 640-460 ( both elaborated by Jeremy C.) To training i recomend the new version of packet tracer that have new voice features (good for quick connectivitys and tests).

Also for good training there is a package with GNS3, Cisco ip phone and tftp server. With this package we can simulate almost everything required for the exam even the CME GUI “Awsome” :D. The only sections that i didn´t find a way to cover was the UC500 GUI and the service-engine for the AIM-CUE or the network CUE.

If using this package try not to use vista or 7 platform because its difficult to set a loopback up and running to give the softphones connectivity to interact with gns3 voice router.

    Good study,

“Passing the exam its not enough, passing and getting the knowledge is the real goal!!

    Best Regards

    Hi guys,

I just passed my CCNA voice this week with 1000 marks. Most of the questions posted in this site were there. But there were some additional questions, like asking what is the tool to record AA greetings… Of course it is AvT. There were some other new questions, but all are basic ones.

Good luck and all the best!!!

For all those Cisco lovers out there who are unable to work on real Cisco devices and find it difficult to work on simulators as they cannot get the updated IOS plus that the new IOS (15.0) is hardware IOS, there is a good news. Cisco is considering to make version 15.0 publicly available as a student’s version but to have it we need to sign a petition. Thousands of people have already done it, including me.

Please go to the site below and file a petition

    http://etherealmind.com/petition/

Spread this news to as many people as you can so that we can at least have a real updated IOS which we can use it in simulators

    Guys,

I passed today with 1000. I think they are changing the questions, i had about 10-12 different questions….and i panicked!!!

I had one question on MWI 4 choose (you need to choose the correct cli configuration)
I had one question on CUE Gui 4 choose (you need to choose where to put the pilot)
I had one DnD 6 Boxes ( between CU and CUE )
i had the dtmf-relay sip-notify one but the options were all similar so review it better…

and….as soon as i remember the others i’ll let you now…

    ahhh

i had one about the QOS it 4 choose (you need to choose the correct cli configuration)

Good luck to everybody who is preparing it…
I will jump to ccnp route 642-902 now…I will see you there..(i tried to chat with CBT live chat to see when it is coming out but it was busy anyone knows when it will be out?)

    Hello,

Thanks to Voicetut for this site, awesome resource.

Thanks again to Voicetut and guys.

Do you remember anything about the other 2 new questions? What categories do they belong to?

  71. AH
    August 16th, 2010

    The questions as I remember:
Q1: related to how to configure MWI (CLI config.)(4 Choose)
the correct answer is something like that:
    ephone-dn 23
    number 1999….
    MWI on
    ephone-dn 24
    number 1998….
    MWI off
Q2: CUE GUI call handling exihibt ask about something like: where you put the pilot number:
    A: Voice mail operator extension
    B: Auto attendant access number
    C: Auto attendant operator extension
    D: Administration Via telephone number
    the correct answer is D

Q3: Drag & Drop question 6 boxes CU & CUE
Read about CU & CUE in the book and make a comparison between them so you will be able to solve this.

Q4: as I remember : how to configure PRI T1 but for 12 channel(4 choose)
the correct answer something like that:
    t1 controller
    freaming esf
    line code b8zs
pri-group timeslots 1-12 (sorry I can’t remember all the command)

  72. tester
    August 17th, 2010

    regarding AH’s Q4:
    PRI T1 is ISDN…

so you should use switch type and no framing and line coding.

It’s CAS T1 that requires framing and line coding info.

please correct me if i’m wrong.

  73. AH
    August 18th, 2010

    @tester
you can use switch type but also you should use framing and line code, kindly review the configuration of T1 ISDN PRI at this link

It is very difficult to use packet tracer in IIUC. You should use GNS3 instead.

    Thanks voicetut,
in GNS3 do i need router IOS image only ( lets say 2600 ), or i need something else.
the problem is, i am not a good person in searching the internet for such staff, that why i asked you about packet trace, because it is simple,

    your advice please.

You will need IOS images which support voice features. Here are some good links:

Well guys I passed today with 1000, thanks to everyone’s contribution. I can’t remember all the new questions but I will try to give back to the community as much as I can.
    1) The mwi question just remember if you’re using 4 digit extensions then you need to have a prefix number followed by …. (eg 2450….) for the MWI ON dn and (eg 2560….) for your OFF dn.
    2) Three ways to configure users in CUE.
    a. login to cli as admin b. Via the cue web page c.import users from cme
    3) Three ways or steps to setup DHCP. (Think singular)
a.One dhcp scope. b.One option 150 and I can’t recall the third option they try to trip you up with stuff like multiple scopes and different option 150 for multiple subsets. Just keep it simple.

Q2: CUE GUI call handling exihibt ask about something like: where you put the pilot number:
    A: Voice mail operator extension
    B: Auto attendant access number
    C: Auto attendant operator extension
    D: Administration Via telephone number
    the correct answer is D

is correct answer not A? pilot # is hidden behind “Voice Mail Number” on phone when configuring CUE through GUI?

    Re AH Q4:

CCS would look similar to this:

    (config)#controller t1 1/0
    (config-controller)# framing esf
    (config-controller)# linecode b8zs
    (config-controller)# pri-group 1 timeslots 1-12 type fxo-loop-start

CAS would look similar to this:

    (config)#controller t1 1/0
    (config-controller)# framing esf
    (config-controller)# linecode b8zs
    (config-controller)# ds0-group 1 timeslots 1-12 type fxo-loop-start

    A: Voice mail operator extension

    ————————

I am asking me the same thing, anybody knows ?

In CCNA voice certification guide in the gui

AA extension – is for the Menu
voice mail access extension – is to listen voice mail ( the pilot )

    What is this question

  95. philzs
    October 2nd, 2010

Last post I talked about uc500 gui..

ok from CUE gui here is what I see from CCNA voice :

    Call Handling
Enter the call in number for voice mail. Auto attendent and the administration via (AVT ) system :

    voice mail number * 7000
    voice mail operator 0
    AA access number : 7001
    AA Operator : 0
    AVT : 7002
    mwi on : #40….
    mwi off : #41….

    so for this question :
CDub September 20th, 2010 Q2: CUE GUI call handling exihibt ask about something like: where you put the pilot number:

I guess it’s in voice mail number ????
